But what about the adults who are already contributing to the workforce?
The JSH Flight Fund was established in memory of James Steven Haralson, a passionate advocate for lifelong learning. He believed in the value of all forms of knowledge—whether through trade skills, higher education, or learning from one’s mistakes. This fund is dedicated to supporting adult learners who are committed to earning their Private Pilot License within one year.

Eligibility Criteria
1. Must be an employee of Duncan Aviation Battle Creek, Michigan
2. Must have taken the Ground School offered to Duncan Aviation Employees
3. Must have completed the ground school. (Note: If you are unsure of completion status, please email us at [email protected])
4. Must be able to commit to completing your PPL within one year of funds credited to your flight account.

Use of Funds
Funds will be credited to your flight account through Marshall Air LLC. These funds do not cover the Instructor cost, but they can be used to cover the aircraft rental of Marshall Air's PA28-140, or you can reserve the funds for your Private Pilot Check Ride Fees.
How Applicants Will Be Selected
Each application will be individually reviewed to ensure all eligibility requirements are met. Once verified, five applicants will be selected at random on June 9th to receive a $1,000 scholarship toward their Private Pilot License flight training.
If a selected student is unable to commit to completing their training within one year or encounters unforeseen challenges that prevent them from flying for the 2025 summer, an alternate recipient will be chosen to receive the award.
If the recipient feels they do not need the funds, they can allocate the funds to another applicant's account.
